Love Yourself First
Before you can expect love from someone else, you must first love yourself. Intellectually speaking, we know we don’t have to settle for less than we deserve; however, our emotions sometimes get in the way of our intellect. The key to loving yourself is being in tune with your feelings, and knowing your worth.
Here are some of my tips to help you achieve self-love. I’d love for you to share your tips too!
5 Ways To F.L.Y. (First Love Yourself)
1. Acknowledge Your Fear.
It’s okay to be afraid, but don’t let your fears paralyze you. Make a list of your fears and figure out the source. Set two or three goals to overcome each one, and monitor your success on a daily basis. The best way to do this is to start a journal. Not only is writing in a journal therapeutic, but it’s a good way to keep track of your progress.
2. Pamper Yourself.
It doesn’t take a lot of money to make yourself feel good. Pampering yourself can be as simple as settling down in a relaxing bubble bath, and allowing soft music to soothe your soul. How about adding a weekly or bi-weekly manicure and pedicure to your household budget? Treat yourself to a movie, a fancy lunch, or dinner at that restaurant you’ve always wanted to try. Make sure you do something especially for YOU every week.
3. Use Positive Self-Talk.
How you see yourself, is exactly the way others will see you. Practice changing your negative thinking into something positive. Instead of beating yourself up for being single, use the time to learn how to enjoy your own company. Stop being critical, and learn to love your imperfections. Love your flaws, because they make you uniquely and wonderfully different.
4. Know Your Worth.
If you are always comparing what you have to what others have, you will never be satisfied. The grass may look greener on the other side, but it’s usually artificial turf. Live in YOUR reality. Instead of focusing on all you don’t have, start appreciating everything you do. It makes no difference how you measure up against others. Your goal is to be the best you that you can possibly be. Comparing your worst to their best will always steal your joy. Live YOUR life, and be great at it.
5. Reward Yourself.
It takes courage to try something new, and step out of your comfort zone. Once you do, you’ll wonder why you hadn’t tried it sooner. Congratulate yourself on every accomplishment, no matter how small. You woke up with a smile, you fell asleep without crying, you spent a day loving on yourself and not worrying about someone else loving on you, you filled out job applications… whatever it is, celebrate YOU! Discover your strengths and emphasize them. You must remind yourself what you like about you, and what you’re good at. When you love who you are, you become more self-confident. F.L.Y. You are perfect just the way you are!
